CWU Honored for Outstanding Contribution to National Defense Education
China Women's University (CWU) recently received an award for its outstanding contribution to national defense education amongst Beijing-based universities last year.
The announcement was made at the annual conference and the fifth council meeting of Beijing Association of National Defense Education in Universities held at Tsinghua University earlier this year.
CWU sponsored a speech contest with an emphasis on national defense last year. It drew the participation of college students from 45 universities in capital city and further boosted their knowledge of national defense.
Its delegation ranked first in the Eighth Contest of the Guards of Honors amongst College Students from Beijing-based Universities in September last year.
In addition, 23 CWU students were successfully enlisted into the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). Some of them were dispatched to guard national borders in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Tibet Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province.
The CWU Department of Armed Forces Affairs will closely follow the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), pass down revolutionary and other positive traditions, increase students' patriotic awareness, elevate national defense education into a key platform for college students to take part and serve social development, as well as, develop the work as an important channel to better manage students' spiritual and political education and ensure their healthy growth.
