At the invitation of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), a women's delegation from Iran visited China Women's University (CWU) and held talks with its senior officials on May 15.

The four-person delegation was headed by Fatemeh Tondgouyan, advisor to the Minister of Women's and Family Affairs in the Ministry of Petroleum of Iran.

During a meeting with the Iranian delegation, Secretary of the CWU Party Committee Li Mingshun gave them warm welcome. He talked about the university's history, mission, characteristics, student recruitment, talent cultivation, discipline building, international exchanges and social services.

Li stressed that the CWU has attached great importance to the constant improvement of students' characters and competences whilst enabling them to be outstanding constructors and successors of the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics.

Moreover, the CWU has been closely engaged in introducing legislation and policies concerning the protection of women's rights and interests, and has exercised its functions as a think tank for the development of women's affairs.

Li continued that the CWU was willing to further strengthen its interactions with its Iranian educational counterparts, deepen bilateral cooperation and work together to cultivate more outstanding women for the two countries and Asia as a whole.

For her part, Tondgouyan gave high praise to the CWU for its work and achievements in the promotion of gender equality and women's education.

She gave an introduction to Iranian government's efforts and achievements in the advancement of women's leadership, education and their participation in social management, along with the growth of Alzahra University, which is the only State-run women's university in the Middle Eastern country.

She said that they would draw more inspiration from the CWU's successful experiences in the organization of training for women and make a joint effort to promote the development of gender equality and women's growth in both countries.

Li Ying, dean of the CWU School of International Education, briefed the visiting delegation about the contents and application procedures of its training programs for women under the Belt and Road Initiative, and hoped that more Iranian women would continue their academic studies at CWU.

In addition, the two sides also held talks about exchanges and cooperation between the CWU and Alzahra University, and the cultivation of female officials.

After the meeting, the visiting delegation toured the university's Women and Gender Library and its campus.
