CWU Launches Social Work Pilot Project in N China

China Women's University (CWU) signed an agreement with Chifeng Women's Federation (CWF) on July 13 concerning bilateral cooperation on poverty relief with an emphasis upon education at a ceremony in Chifeng, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
According to the agreement, the CWU will make full use of its academic advantage in social work majoramid a drive to accelerate the poverty alleviation progress in Chifeng under the piloted scheme of one-on-one partnership of assistance.
The piloted scheme is part of an effort undertaken by the CWU to act on the circular, which was jointly released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development in the last year to boost the participation of professional forces from the discipline of social work in the battle against poverty relief.
CWU vice-president Liu Meng, who is also deputy chairperson of the China Association for Social Work Education, headed a delegation of seven faculty members from the Graduate Department, the School of Social Work, the School of Law, the School of Children's Development and Education, and the School of International Education to attend the signing ceremony.
Liu said in her speech that CWU would work together with the CWF and other local government departments to cultivate a group of poverty relief workers who have professional concepts and working methods connected with social work, make an integration of social work into targeted poverty alleviation work, and encourage local universities to make a breakthrough in their academics of social work.
Moreover, she gave a lecture entitled “Social Work and Targeted Poverty Relief” to trainees at the event.
Wang Dongwei, deputy secretary of Chifeng Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), briefed attendees from the CWU on general information about the city.
Director of the CWU Graduate Department Jiao Yang and President of CWF Yuan Wenying represented the two sides to sign the deal at the ceremony.
Those present at the event from Chifeng included officials from other local government agencies, universities and vocational colleges.
