At the invitation of the UNESCO office in Beijing, a two-person delegation from the Media Diversity Institute (MDI) in the United Kingdom visited China Women's University (CWU) on October 19.

During the visit, CWU President Liu Liqun held talks with President of the MDI Milica Pesic and Eline Jeanné, chief of the MDI branch in China.

Liu spoke with the two visiting guests about the university's history, mission, the number of faculties and students, the development of UNESCO Joint Chair on Media and Gender in cooperation with the Communication University of China (CUC), and its efforts to promote academic research, exchanges and collaborations with other higher educational institutes in the fields of media and women's affairs.

For her part, Pesic presented an introduction to the MDI's development, research focus and efforts to carry out research on media diversity and nurture a media environment with an emphasis upon inclusiveness.

Pesic emphasized that she has paid close attention to the CWU's academic research in the fields of gender studies and cultural communication, adding that the MDI is willing to work with CWU in the promotion of media diversity and gender equality.

The two sides agreed to organize their scholars and students to conduct academic exchanges, share the progress of their personal research, and build an inclusive media environment conducive to the growth of gender equality.

Those in attendance at the meeting included Wang Qin, vice-director of the CUC's Media and Gender Studies Center, and officials from the Department of International Cooperation and the School of Cultural Communication as well as teachers from the CWU.
