Women's Leadership Training Program Held at CWU

A training program on women's leadership opened at China Women's University (CWU) in Beijing on March 19.

A group of 22 women from higher education institutions and women's organizations of Southeast Asian countries, such as Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Pakistan and Nepal, attended an 11-day training course in Beijing.

They were the first participants of the Talent Cultivation Base Project for the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in this year.

Cai Shumin, Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), and CWU Party chief Li Mingshun, Secretary of the Party committee of the CWU, attended the opening ceremony. Wang Jingxia, Vice-President of the CWU presided over the ceremony.

Cai outlined the significance of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping and the contribution made by the ACWF in promoting the initiative, saying that the ACWF has been active in exchanges between Chinese and foreign women and has hosted various activities to enhance communication with the countries involved in the BRI.

She hoped the training program would help facilitate the exchange and improve the leadership and education of the participants.

Li hoped the program would boost gender equality and women's development and promote exchange and cooperation between the women's higher education institutions in China and countries involved in the BRI.

One trainee, Ngo Minh Hien from Vietnam, says she looks forward to experiencing the economic and cultural progress in China and she learns about its achievements in promoting gender equality and safeguarding women's interests and rights.[China Women's University]

The Talent Cultivation Base Project was initiated by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission in 2017 to serve the BRI. CWU is one of the 40 higher education institutions approved as organizers of the project.

It will launch a union of women principals from countries involved in the BRI and develop CWU into an internationally influential female talent training base for higher education in Beijing.

In addition, the project will help improve the university's global presence in talent cultivation, scientific research and social service through discipline construction and faculty training.
