CWU Gathers Teachers to Discuss Ideological and Political Theory

China Women's University (CWU) gathered its teachers together to discuss ideological and political theory on April 25 in a move to learn and act on the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's address at a symposium with their nationwide peers in Beijing in March.

General Secretary Xi Jinping said during the meeting that China's ideological and political teachers should uphold firm Marxist belief and boost creativity in teaching to cultivate talent to build socialism.

Feng Xiujun, Dean of the School of Marxism at Central University of Finance and Economics, spoke about the reform of ideological and political theory courses in her lecture.

Inspired by Xi's addresses at the national conference on ideological and political work in China's universities and colleges in December 2016 and the recent symposium, Feng talked about how to better conduct the ideological and political theory courses and criticized the negative viewpoints concerning the courses.

Feng emphasized that the courses of ideological and political theory should stick to the fundamental principle of fostering virtue through education. In addition, they were expected to stress innovation and make necessary adjustments to the building of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era and the changes of international situations when it came to nurturing more young talents for the realization of national rejuvenation, she added.

Meanwhile, Feng also shared her university experience and practices in the reform of ideological and political theory courses with the participants.

The attending teachers of ideological and political theory said that they greatly benefited from the lecture and would strive to constantly improve their academic abilities, carry forward with reform in personal courses and enhance the overall teaching quality of the ideological and political theory courses at their universities.

Towards the end of the gathering, Li Mingshun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the CWU, urged teachers of ideological and political theory to have firm faith in ideals, have theoretical confidence in facing the reality, identify themselves with relevant courses from their inner hearts, possess strong qualities of logics, familiarize them with famous and philosophical mottos, conduct in-depth studies, become a person of great knowledge and master advanced, interesting teaching methods.

Li called on the participants to learn from advanced teachers, improve personal courses, and make reform and innovation in their teaching.

Hou Dianmu, Director of the Academic Affairs Office at the CWU, presided over the gathering.

Wang Lian, Vice-President of the CWU, teachers of ideological and political theory, staff members of the supervisory group, teachers from the Academic Affairs Office, and some secretaries of the Party branches of the CWU, attended the discussions.
