Li Mingshun Urges Upholding the Guidance of Marxist Women-Theories

"We should hold high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics and unswervingly adhere to the guiding position of Marxist Women-theories in the cultivation of talents and women's studies," said Li Mingshun, Secretary of the Party Committee of China Women's University (CWU), at an inspection meeting in the university's Department of Women's Studies.

Wei Kaiqiong, Secretary of the General Party branch and Director of the Department of Women's Studies, reported the implementation of Marxist women-theories and the basic national policy of gender equality in the training of talents, as well as the building of faculty team in the department in recent years.

Teachers gave their opinions on the department's development history, the changes in women's studies, the orientation of the etiquette and self-cultivation course and other topics.

Representatives of students shared their personal feelings about how women's studies helped with their personal growth.

Li said it is necessary to highlight the guiding position of Marxist women-theories in the construction of curricula, especially to promote and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important remarks on women and women's work. 

"Under the guidance of Marxist Women-theories, we must apply gender theory to serve the development of socialist women with Chinese characteristics. It is necessary to understand the relationship and differences between the basic national policy of gender equality and gender mainstreaming, and fully implement the basic national policy of equality between men and women," Li required.

"We should keep firmly in mind the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment. We should strengthen our confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics. We should uphold Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and safeguard Xi's status as the core of the CPC Central Committee and the whole Party, and resolutely uphold the CPC Central Committee's authority and its centralized, unified leadership," he said.

Li pointed out that the department should take up its responsibility in the development of training courses for officials of the women's federations, the training of teacher staff and the support of theoretical research.

The department should nurture cross-disciplinary and high-quality talents and greatly improve its scientific research, he added.
