CWU Holds Global Women's Development Forum

The Global Women's Development Forum, with the theme of "Achievement, Challenge and Future," was held at China Women's University (CWU) on December 6, 2019.

The forum aimed to review the achievements made by women both domestically and overseas and explore the path of sustainable development for women in the new era.

Experts from UNESCO, UN Women, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and some organizations in seven countries, including France, Nepal, Zimbabwe and Cameroon, delivered speeches at the event.

Wang Lian, Vice-President of the CWU and the Global Institute for Women's Development, said that the CWU's achievements in promoting gender equality and pushing forward women's education benefited from the support of the Chinese government and social groups as well as cooperation with global women's organizations.

The CWU will cooperate with more organizations to further give full play to the institute as a think tank, and make a contribution to women's theoretical research and the development of women's cause, Wang added.

Zhang Xiuqin, former Ambassador of China to UNESCO and Vice-President of the China Education Association for International Exchange, pointed out that women's development relies on further strengthening international cooperation in the areas of education, science and culture, in order to realize the common progress and development of women around the world.

Lin Jialei, an officer at the China Office of UN Women, praised the CWU's achievements in promoting gender equality and enhancing women's rights, and she hoped that the CWU could gather more international social forces to increase their international influence.

Hong Chunhui, an investigator at the Urban Work Office of the Department of Women's Development at the ACWF, said that as China has stepped into a new era, it is an opportunity but also a challenge for China to increase equal employment opportunities for both men and women, and foster the development of women.

It is necessary to put a greater focus on building a good environment for women's development, Hong noted.

Sarita Jnawali, officer in the Nepal National Nature Conservation Fund, spoke of the challenges faced by Nepal's women who are participating in natural resource management through the implementation of National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC).

Officers and experts from Jamaica, Cameroon, France, Zimbabwe and Mauritius also shared their ideas on women's development in the future.

The forum is one of activities held for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the CWU. More than 300 scholars from 20 countries attended the event.
