CWU Holds Forum on Sports and Gender Equality

China Women's University & ACWF Executive Leadership Academy (CWU), in collaboration with the Champion Foundation, held a forum on sports and gender equality in Beijing on March 8, to mark the International Women's Day and promote the Olympic spirit.

Themed with Sports Make Women Stronger, the forum aimed to explore the positive interactions between sports and gender equality, promote women's all-round development and contribute wisdom and strength to achieving gender equality.

Cai Shumin, Member of the Leading Party Members' Group and Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), delivers a speech at the forum.

In her speech, Cai extended festive greetings and best wishes on behalf of the ACWF to women from all walks of life. She said that Chinese women have played a vital role in building China into a country strong on sports, stressing that women's achievements at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics Games will further inspire Chinese women to have more self-esteem, confidence, self-improvement and independence and contribute to the great national rejuvenation.

Yang Yang, China's first Winter Olympic gold medalist, Chairperson of the Athletes' Committee of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Winter Olympics and founder of the Champion Foundation, gives a speech at the forum via video link.

In her speech, Yang said that sports can break gender stereotypes and is an important tool to promote women's development and gender equality.

Wu Dajing, a short-track speed skater and gold medalist at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, shares his understanding of promoting gender equality through sports and calls on all men to help promote gender equality at the forum.

In addition, Wu Jingyu, Wang Liping and Mao Jingdian, women athletes and gold medalists, shared their stories with the attendees.

Liu Liqun, President of the CWU and hostess of the UNESCO Chair on Media and Gender, gives a speech at the forum.

In her speech, Liu said that the CWU has been committed to promoting gender equality and women's development and has always paid great attention to cultivating women who are equipped with moral grounding, intellectual and physical ability, aesthetic sensibility and work skills. The CWU teachers and students provided voluntary services at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games.
