The 4th Global Women's Development Forum, themed with "Equality, Innovation and Achievements — Gender Equality and Women's Development in the New Era," was held online from December 17 to 18, 2022.
Wu Haiying, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. Noting that the forum was held shortly after the successful convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Wu said it was of great importance to further study and implement the guiding principles of the key congress, remain committed to the fundamental national policy of gender equality, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Wu called on participants to sum up innovation theory and experience of promoting gender equality and women's all-round development; better tell the stories of China, of Chinese women, and the development stories of women in developing countries and of women in the whole world. She also urged contributing China's wisdom and solutions to promoting gender equality and women's all-round development worldwide, and making greater contributions to global gender equality and women's all-round development.
Smriti Aryal, Head of the UN Women China office, and Professor Shahbaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Office in Beijing and UNESCO Representative to the People's Republic of China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia, and the Republic of Korea, extended their congratulations on the opening of the forum.
Aryal pointed out that gender equality is crucial to the realization of social stability, rural revitalization and scientific and technological innovation. She called for formulating sound policies and coming up with comprehensive solutions to structural inequalities in women's development, solving systematic barriers confronting women in the fields of employment, occupational promotion and unpaid work at home, overcoming gender stereotypes and biases holding women, and giving full play to women's potential.
Khan put forward proposals for the promotion of gender equality and women's development from the perspectives of education, natural sciences and humanistic and social sciences. He said that UNESCO is willing to strengthen its cooperation with China on promoting gender equality and advancing the development of women and girls.
The forum comprised keynote speeches and three parts — rural revitalization and women's development, a powerful country in science and technology and women's development, and the practice and innovation of women's development in the new era.
The forum drew the attendance of over 100 professors and scholars from 22 countries, as well as teachers and students from China Women's University & ACWF Executive Leadership Academy.
