Wu Xianyan, born in 1994, is a woman of Dong ethnic group from Congjiang County, Southwest China's Guizhou Province.
She returned to the Moon Mountain Area in her hometown and became a staff member of the Management Committee in Jiabang Terrace Scenic Area in Congjiang after graduating from the university in 2017.
Congjiang is one of the last nine poverty-stricken counties in Guizhou Province. Wu was transferred to work as a poverty alleviation official in Jiache Village in March 2019.
Wu is also responsible for collecting the old-age and medical insurances of the villagers, reporting the information of disadvantaged and impoverished households, and assisting the village committee and Party branch of the village to improve the local living environment.
During the busy farming season, Wu and other village-stationed officials take the initiative to help some households in need transplant rice seedlings and thresh grain. She also uses her spare time to promote the beautiful terrace scenery and folk culture of Miao ethnic group through online platform, trying to attract more tourists to travel and help villagers increase their income.
Being a village-stationed official for grid-based poverty alleviation work for more than a year, Wu has seen that the living environment of the village is getting cleaner, the number of the tourists is increasing, more villagers run agritainment and their incomes are gradually increasing, all of which makes her feel that her efforts are worthwhile.
