Under the leadership of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), women's federations at all levels in Central China's Hubei Province have acted swiftly to mobilize women across the province to respond to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus epidemic in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei Province.
Shen Yueyue, President of the ACWF, urged the women's federations in Hubei Province to contribute to the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus epidemic. Shen said the ACWF will give full support to the work of epidemic prevention and control of the province.
Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, learned about the need of supplies for the epidemic prevention and control work in the province, and she coordinated the ACWF's resources to collect and send supplies and funds to support Hubei.
On January 23, the Women's Federation of Hubei Province issued an initiative to women and the women's federations in the province, calling for their active engagement and actions in the epidemic prevention and control work in villages, communities and families.
The province's women's federation and the Hubei Women and Children's Development Foundation had raised 14.74 million yuan (US $2.12 million) worth of funds and materials as of January 29.
The Wuhan Women's Federation has established a coronavirus prevention and control headquarters in Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, and it issued a letter to the city's women and families, calling on them to make contributions at their post, and protect themselves in a scientific way.
On January 25, the women's federations in Wuhan raised 200,000 medical facial masks and distributed them to anti-epidemic sites, sub-districts and communities, helping women and community residents solve their urgent needs. More efforts of women's federations have also been made to collect donations, publicize related policies, promote epidemic prevention knowledge and provide psychological counseling to local people.
In addition, women's federations in Xiangyang, Yichang and Huangshi and the other nine cities are going all out in response to the virus outbreak.
They have mobilized officials of the women's federations, women volunteers and the public to take preventive actions to stop the spread of the virus, including publicizing knowledge about epidemic prevention, checking household registration and body temperature in communities, conducting telephone interviews, distributing facial masks, enforcing quarantines, and providing psychological assistance.
In response to the call of women's federations across the province, women entrepreneurs have helped raise a large number of urgently needed medical materials. The Hubei Women Entrepreneurs Association received over 576,400 yuan (US $83,094) in donations on January 24-30.
