Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), also Vice-Chairperson of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, met Craig Allen, President of the US-China Business Council (USCBC), in Beijing on March 27.
Huang said Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden, during their meeting in San Francisco, in November 2023, laid out a future-oriented "San Francisco vision," charting the course for the development of China-US relations. President Xi noted, during his meeting with representatives of the US business, strategic and academic communities, at the Great Hall of the People on March 27, the history of China-US relations is one of friendly exchanges between the two peoples. Its existing chapters are written by the people, and the future will of course be created by the people, Xi said.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. Xi called on people from all sectors of Chinese and American societies to have more mutual visits and exchanges, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, earnestly implement the important common understandings and outcomes reached by the two heads of State, and take concrete actions to promote the sustained, steady and sound development of China-US relations.
Huang outlined the 13th National Women's Congress of China (held in October 2023). Huang said Xi, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Standing Committee Members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the congress' opening meeting. Xi delivered an important speech during a talk with the new leadership of the ACWF, which provided guiding principles for women's cause and women's federations' work on a new journey of the new era.
Huang also explained Xi's discourses on the work related to women and children as well as the work of women's federations, and Xi's discourses on the importance of family, family education and virtues. Huang reviewed the achievements reached in Chinese women's undertakings in the new era and ACWF's major work. In particular, she mentioned the Spring Bud Project, which received the 2023 UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Prize for Girls' and Women's Education, the free screening program that supports and benefits low-income women who suffer from two cancers (cervical cancer and breast cancer), and a series of actions encouraging women to be strivers in their respective fields.
Huang commented positively on USCBC's efforts to advance China-US cooperation, especially related to women's health. She expected the two sides to achieve new progress in their exchanges and cooperation.
Allen said the successful meeting between President Xi and President Biden bolstered all sectors in the US, as well as the world's expectation of and confidence in the relations between China and the US. He highly appreciates the great importance Xi attaches to the cause of women, and China's efforts, especially women's federations' roles, in the enhancement of women and children's health. Allen said USCBC is willing to promote pragmatic cooperation involving women's development between the US and Chinese business communities.
Lin Yi, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, Song Li, Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, and relevant officials from the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the meeting.
