Fujian Overseas Women's Association Mobilizes Social Forces to Support Anti-Virus Fight

As the outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia attracted the attention of all of society, the Fujian Overseas Women's Association (FJOWA) called on women both at home and abroad to donate to the motherland's anti-virus fight.

On behalf of the Goldcommon Co. Ltd., Chen Aiqin, President of the FJOWA, presented the company's donation of 100 million yuan (US $14.36 million) for the epidemic prevention and treatment in poverty-stricken areas, the purchase of medical equipment and targeted poverty alleviation at a donation ceremony held on Feb. 4, 2020. 

"Faced with the epidemic, we share a common destiny. Our entrepreneurs have the inescapable responsibilities to make contributions. We should have confidence and believe in the leadership of the Party and the government. The epidemic will be controlled as early as possible and we will win the battle against the novel coronavirus outbreak," Chen said.  

The All-China Women's Federation Hong Kong Delegates Association (ACWFHKDA) mobilized members of its executive committee, specially-invited representatives and women in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) to donate 2.5 million yuan (US $358,438) for assisting the people in epidemic-stricken areas. Counselor Wong Siu-wah donated 100,000 HKD (US $12,878.80) to support the fight against the epidemic.

Counselor Chan Chung-chung guided Hong Kong Community of Fujian Associations to donate 3 million HKD (US $386,364) to the special account for disaster relief of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR, to help purchase epidemic prevention materials for the epidemic-hit areas. 

Knowing that Central China's Hubei Province lacks medical materials, Executive Vice-President of the FJOWA Coi Wong Ling-ling purchased medical supplies including 20,000 bottles of alcohol disinfectant, which were delivered to Hubei from Xiamen, a city in Southeast China's Fujian Province. 

Vice-presidents of the ACWFHKDA donated tens of millions of yuan altogether and protective equipment to help the epidemic prevention and control efforts in Hubei and Fujian provinces.

The epidemic is also of great concern to overseas Chinese. Tang Xiaoling, Vice-President of the FJOWA, is now living in the United States. On hearing the news, she immediately contacted the Secretariat of the FJOWA and donated 10,000 yuan (US $1,436) for the fight against the epidemic. 

Zhou Aizhu, Vice-President of the All Africa Association for Promoting Peaceful Reunification of China and President of Fujian Cheongsam Association, guided her members to donate 422,000 yuan (US $60,570) to relevant charity organizations of Fujian Province and purchased 255,000 masks, 2,000 suits of protective clothing and 11,000 pairs of gloves for donation to the Red Cross Society of China. 

Chiang Pui-kei, a woman entrepreneur in Taiwan Province, donated 75,000 yuan (US $10,770) to Lianjiang, her hometown and a county in Fujian Province. Among the donations, 60,000 yuan (US $8,616) was spent on purchasing 150,000 medical gloves which were delivered to Lianjiang on February 5.

So far, the FJOWA has donated 142.6 million yuan (nearly US $20.5 million), 645,000 masks, 2,000 suits of protective clothing, 162,500 pairs of gloves and 20,000 bottles of alcohol disinfectant.
