CPC Names 11 Women on Draft List Honoring 100 Role Models of Reform, Opening-up

Tu Youyou, a CPC member, was born in the city of Ningbo, east China's Zhejiang Province, in December 1930. She is China's first Nobel Prize-winner in physiology or medicine and a chief professor from the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica at China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.

Tu has been engaged in the decade-long research of traditional Chinese medicine and led her team to successfully discover artemisinin which is the gold standard treatment for malaria around the world.

Tu was given with China's top science award in 2017 in recognition of her remarkable contributions to the development of traditional Chinese medicine and the health cause of humanity.
