Fan Jinshi, a CPC member, was born in the city of Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, in July 1938. She is honorary president of Dunhuang Academy in northwest China's Gansu Province.

Fan has regarded the protection of Mogao Caves as equally important as her own life and completed the academic studies of grottoes built in several dynasties.

Along with her colleagues, Fan has shown consistent commitments to the preservation of cultural heritages, promoted international cooperation on the protection of cultural relics, and introduced latest concepts as well as technologies to build a digital museum in a drive to better resolve the contradiction between protecting cultural relics and developing tourism.

She has been nicknamed as "the daughter of Dunhuang" and conferred with National Outstanding Worker as well as National Outstanding CPC Member titles.
